Ivrit -

Autumn Term 2025

We loved welcoming Year 2 to Ivrit and have had a busy first half term!

The children were introduced to some common basic greetings which we will be using in every lesson.

שָׁלוֹם- hello/bye
בֹּקֶר טוֹב- good morning
צָהֳרַיִם טוֹבִים- good afternoon
Can I go to the toilet please?
How are you? (m/f)
טוֹב תּוֹדָה/ מְצֻיָן/ כָּכָה כָּכָה- good thanks/ excellent/ so so

They learnt that the start of the year looks very different in Israel where the sun still shines and the children are in shorts and t shirts still.

The children decorated little 'feet' with the Ivrit words - מַתְחִילִים בַּחִיּוּךְ - start with a smile. 😁

The children learnt words and phrases in Ivrit for Rosh HaShana. They can greet each other in Ivrit and say the foods they eat and love.

Shana Tova
I love apple and honey
I eat pomegranate on Rosh HaShana
I love round challah on Rosh HaShanah

The children decorated boxes for the Dvash and wrote blessings in Ivrit.

The children learnt the word סליחה - sorry ready for Yom Kippur! They thought about who they would say סליחה to and wrote letters in Ivrit.

The children enjoyed learning Ivrit words for Sukkot. They decorated their own Sukkah and described the  סְכָךְ (roof), קִשּׁוּטִים (decorations), welcomed in אוֹרְחִים (guests), added the אַרְבַּעַת הַמִּינִים (four kinds) and finally said חַג שָׂמֵחַ (Happy Holiday) .
