Ivrit
March 2024 - SHUK HaKEREM comes to Kerem school! The children in Y6 used their Ivrit skills to create our own Israeli style market (Shuk) to sell products to the pupils from Y1-4. They counted their shkalim to see who earned the most money.

Welcome to the Spring Term in Ivrit. The children have been learning the topic of Shopping - קְנִיּוֹת. They are now able to say, understand, read and write a variety of shops and know what they can buy in each shop, using the verb קוֹנֶה in all its conjugations. They have also learnt how to ask for something to buy, using the infinitive verb לִקְנוֹת (To buy). This term they will also learn and research all about the Shekel, including the exchange rate and who appears on the notes. They have started learning how to ask the price of an item in a shop - כַּמָּה זֶה עוֹלֶה (how much does it cost?). By the end of the term we are hoping to run the Shuk HaKerem (Kerem market) with the children running the stalls and buying from each other, using the words and phrases they have learnt.
The children finished the topic of Seder Yom sheli - סֵדֶר יוֹם שֶׁלִּי- My Daily Routine, at the end of the Autumn term. They were able to use a variety of verbs to describe their day as well as the time. For example:
אֲנִי קָם בְּשָׁעָה שֶׁבַע בַּבֹּקֶר וְאוֹכֵל אֲרוּחַת בּוֹקֵר- I get up at seven in the morning and eat breakfast
אֲנִי הוֹלֵךְ לְבֵית הַסֵּפֶר בְּשָׁעָה שְׁמוֹנֶה בַּבֹּקֶר- I go to school at eight in the morning.
Year 6 have been learning how to tell the time in Ivrit.
They can say the time on the hour
- הַשָּׁעָה שֶׁבַע - the time is seven o'clock
The time 'half past'
הַשָּׁעָה שְׁתַּיִם וָחֵצִי - the time is half past two
The time 'quarter past'
הַשָּׁעָה אַרְבַּע וָרֶבַע - the time is quarter past four
The time 'quarter to'
הַשָּׁעָה רֶבַע לְשְּׁמוֹנֶה - the time is quarter to eight
They will start learning verbs (including some previously learnt verbs) to describe their daily routine using the time and days of the week.
