Inclusion and Wellbeing
Welcome to the Inclusion and Wellbeing Team. Our team is made up of:
Mrs A Sharman (Inclusion Lead) inclusion@keremschool.co.uk /asharman@keremschool.co.uk
Mr D Portnoi (Wellbeing Practitioner) dportnoi@keremschool.co.uk
At Kerem we are committed to inclusion and strive to ensure that all pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum. We recognise that many children have a range of needs, both educational and emotional, and may have different starting points or learning styles. We ensure that children have suitable, supportive provision in order for them to achieve individual targets and to progress and provide this additional support either 1:1, in small groups, or in class, depending on the needs of the child.
We are proud of the range of interventions we can provide. These include:
1:1 Counselling
Fine Motor Skills/handwriting
Finger Gym
Language and Communication - including listening skills and focus
Lego Therapy
Phonic Catch-up
Sensory Circuits/Gross Motor Skills
Small group support for Maths and English
Social Skills Groups/1:1 support - including assertiveness, resilience, turn-taking, sharing, friendships, etc.
Springboard (Maths)
TRP (Targeted Reading Practice)
Wave 3 (Maths)
Some children may need external support from a specialist such as an Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, an Occupational Therapist, Developmental Paediatrician or a Counsellor. We also refer to agencies such as Norwood and CAMHs (Child and Adult Mental Services). We support parents through the referral process and liaise with specialists so that we can best support your child.
At Kerem, the wellbeing of all our pupils is paramount. We are very fortunate to have an experienced Wellbeing Practitioner. Mr Portnoi is in school every day and provides on-going social and emotional support for all those who need it.
We are so delighted to have been awarded the Optimus Wellbeing Award for schools which recognises how we prioritise the Positive Mental Health and Wellbeing of everyone at Kerem. In order to achieve this, our provision and its impact was monitored over an 18 month period and it was judged to be excellent.
